The Chinese have a saying that goes something like this,"The temptation to quit will be the greatest just before you are about to succeed."
That is just the motivation I need to carry me through the rest of this miserable month of February!
That is all I have to say about that!

New Shoes!
I just got a new pair of running shoes today. I am so happy! :)
My old ones didn't look old, but they were really starting to feel old! I am in week three of my training schedule for the Parkway 10 Miler. My running buddy and I did our first speed session last week. Whew! It was really hard to run faster. It made me realize how comfortable I have become with my running pace.
I doubt my new shoes will make me run any faster, but they sure feel great on my feet!
Now...if only the weather would cooperate...

Helpful online tool
Hey Speed Sisters!
I wanted to share a tip with you. Tara, my running buddy, told me about this great training tool she found online. We are both training for the G.W. Parkway Classic in April (and then she is doing a half marathon in May), so we have been trying to work up our mileage on our own. I checked out this training tool and it really helped me to organize my training for the next 13 weeks.
So, here is the information. Go to the Runner's World website at www.runnersworld.com. Click on the training link. Scroll down on the left side of the screen and click on Smart Coach. Fill in all the fields (race distance, your pace, date of race, etc.) and it will design a mileage training program just for your pace and motivation level! I will start my training program on Monday. My running days will be Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. I plan to cross train on Tuesdays, and run my long distances on Saturdays.
Check out the link and let me know if it is helpful.
I will post opportunities for group long runs on the Montclair Striders group message page. Hopefully, we can start running together as a group.
Enjoy your weekend, and stay warm!!

Running4fitness
Hey Speed Sisters!
I wanted to let you know that I signed up for a running class today at the Dale City Rec Center. It is called "Running4fitness" and is scheduled to start on March 8th. From what I understand, the initial session will be a gait assessment. The instructor will critique your form and help you to correct it. I think he will also address topics like injury prevention, nutrition, gear, shoes, etc. It meets every Saturday morning from 8-8:50. I have wanted to take this class for a year now...I just had a hard time committing to Saturday mornings. But, I have learned that I have to carve out my own "me" time in my schedule because no-one is going to do it for me!
Let me know if you would like more information on the class. I would love the company!

Upcoming Races
Hey Speed Sisters!
Just thought I would let you know I have signed up for my first race of 2008! I registered for the George Washington Parkway Classic 10 miler. This is my favorite race! It is run every spring along the Potomac River on the G.W. Parkway from Mt. Vernon to Alexandria. It is my favorite race for many reasons...the scenery is so pretty...the first mile is entirely downhill...and my mom is always waiting at the end of Vernon View Drive to wave at me! This race is just a mile from my parent's home. I hope you will join me to run this race! FYI...they also have a 5k race at the same time the 10 miler is run.
I am planning to run the Backyard Burn in Prince William Forest Park in March. I tried to register online for the 5 mile trail race today, but registration does not open until January 1.
Enjoy your New Year's festivities!
I will be ready to hit the ground running in 2008!
